Can you sign off on my financial statements?

Because I'm not a CPA, my role is preparing your financial statements for you to view. I am unable to do audits or sign off on your financial statements. However, I work hand in hand with your CPA at year-end to ensure they have everything they need, taking all of the stress off of you!

Who do you work with?

I specialize in working with professionals in the real estate and wedding industries. Real estate agents, investors, developers, and interior designers. As well as florists, event planners, stationary designers etc.

What if my business income varies from month to month?

It's not uncommon for many businesses, especially in our area to go through busy seasons and slow seasons. In our consultation, we can figure out what would be best for your business.

What if I'm in a different city or province?

That’s what’s great about this business being completely virtual! Over half of my clients are out of state. For any clients not in the area, I use Zoom for consultations and meetings. All bank statements, receipts, check requests, invoices, etc can be communicated through a shared Google Drive between me and the client.

What if I don't have QuickBooks?

Not a problem! I can either walk you through setting it up, or do it with/for you!

What if I'm saving myself money by doing the bookkeeping myself?

Even with a basic understanding of bookkeeping, you might still be missing some critical elements to bookkeeping. A professional bookkeeper with the experience and credentials is guaranteed to properly code and record the everyday transactions. WRITE ON YOUR RECEIPTS

When you buy something for your business - like props, office supplies, or snacks for a client meeting - take the next 5 seconds after you get back into your car and jot down what is was for ~right on the receipt.~

You might think, "Oh, I'll remember!"

HA! No you won't...

Three months from now when you're sorting through transactions... that $17.89 charge at Michael's is going to be a total mystery.

It's even more important if you ever get audited. The CRA (or your accountant) will not just want to know *what* you spent, but *why*.

For emailed receipts, don't let them get buried. Make them a folder in your inbox called "Business Receipts" and drop them in as they come. You can even add a quick note to the email if you need to clarify anything.

Business owners shouldn’t use journal entries manually because one wrong debit or credit can throw off financials and lead to inaccurate reports.

Most everyday transactions like sales, expenses, and invoices don’t require a journal entry.

Manual journal entries are typically used for adjustments such as depreciation, payroll accruals, error corrections, and year-end closing entries.

They are best handled by a bookkeeper or accountant to maintain accuracy and compliance.

The CRA understands that taxpayers can sometimes make honest mistakes when filing their taxes.

If you’ve already filed, wait until you receive your Notice of Assessment (NOA) from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) before making changes.

If you need to change a return that has already been filed, you have a few options:

- Use the Change my return service in CRA My Account

- Use ReFILE through your certified tax software

- Send your changes by mail to a CRA tax centre

- If your correction involves deductions or credits, be ready to submit receipts or documents to support the changes.

The CRA does not allow you to file a second return for the same tax year, so always request an adjustment instead.

If you have invoices that haven’t been paid, you might be wondering if you should just delete them. The short answer is NO.

Deleting invoices can mess with your records and throw off your reports.

A better option is to follow up on unpaid invoices and send reminders or offer a payment plan.

If the invoice was already paid but still shows as open, check that it’s properly matched to the deposit.

If you know the invoice won’t be collected, mark it as bad debt to keep your records accurate.

It’s also a good idea to check for duplicates in case the invoice was recreated instead of applied.

Keeping your books clean makes tax time easier and gives you a better picture of your business finances.
